Mari Nicholas, Author The Butterfly Diary
I worked as an executive assistant for 30 years in the financial sector in downtown San Francisco. I was always interested in pursuing a fiction writing career and took many creative courses online and in person. I wrote two novels that weren’t that good (lol) and kept my day job until I took early retirement in 2020. I remarried and moved to Hawaii in 2023 and enrolled in a mentorship with an indigenous wisdom keeper for 3.5 months. During the course, I was inspired to write The Butterfly Diary. We did many exercises to explore our inner selves through the use of connecting with a spirit animal. During a class exercise, I felt a strong connection to the Hawaiian butterfly called Pulelehua. I was going through a personal transformation, and it seemed fitting that the butterfly would be my spirit animal.
