Karla Hernandez (CharlieCrist.com)
Since 2016 Karla has served as the President of the United Teachers of Dade, the largest teachers’ union in the southeastern United States. Prior to becoming president, Karla served as UTD’s Secretary-Treasurer from 2013-2016. Before that, Karla worked as a classroom teacher for over 10 years teaching special needs children, and in 2010 she was selected as Teacher of the Year at Hialeah Middle School. AND NOW… we have Karla Hernandez as Charlie Crist Running mate.

After earning my degrees in Psychology and Studies in Human Behavior, I worked in a 24/7 crisis center, where I began having listening sessions with dozens of clients coming every week with a high acuity for suicide, self-harm, substance abuse, and other destructive behaviors. There, I produced measurements for stages of readiness for change and put together a training course for staff to get a perspective through the client’s eyes. I also worked in a community resource center, as well as in a soup kitchen and homeless shelter. Endless hours were spent listening, helping with resources, and advocating for clients. After volunteering at an arts and wellness center, I was voted in as President of the Board, where I received more peer support training and advocacy roles. Serving on the Board of the local Head Start chapter, I gained a broader understanding of the importance of family and the effects of trauma. #familyaddictions101
